It’s great that you took the decision yourself to come of this addictive medication. Well done to you! I did wonder though what you were taking it for in the first place, is anything you feel now the return of the original symptoms instead of a withdrawal from them?
So you have .5mg pills and you take 3 a day but you were on 2 a day until recently. I’d suggest you go right back to the 2 x .5 a day you were on for 3 years. You possibly won’t notice that too much. If it is your decision to stop these by weaning off them I’m not clear where the idea of 10 pills left came from? 10 pills will only last 5 days if you take 2 a day and you need time to adjust to the 2 a day then slowly try to step down to 1 a day for a while. This is not an easy withdrawal at all after all these years you need to take this very very slowly. After the 5 days I think you should see how you got on with 2 a day first before any more reductions.
I’d have suggested the withdrawal was staggered over a few weeks myself! maybe 1.5 pills a day for a week at least, then reduce to 1 a day, then half a day. If you get into a lot of trouble at any stage step back up at least a quarter (if you can manage to cut them with a pill splitter).
You are going to have to discuss this with the doctor soon to avoid any sudden withdrawals in 5 days time.
Good luck, you are doing the right thing.
