A lot of people who have gotten addicted to prescription drugs started out as people with a need for them. The addiction happens when they start to change the dosage regimen on their own. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, approximately 9 million Americans utilized prescription drugs for non-medical purposes back in 1999. They usually use it for recreation and psychic effects. They discover that they can get high from using the medications. Other effects include: euphoria, a feeling of calmness, and it gives them the feeling that they are having fun.
