Drug abuse can cause severe abnormalities in the brain chemicals that are responsible for normal cognition and perception.
I have known people who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder because they mimicked the symptoms from taking drugs . . . although I think in this case the person’s problems resolved when they got off the drugs permanently.
